There are 27,000 current students, 1,700 of them are exchange students from 95 different countries. Since the language of instruction is English, you don’t have difficulty to communicate with other students.

Its campus is located in a large area (about 4500 hectares), and has great opportunities to study, live and socialize. However, sometimes some problems can occur in the campus because of the political issues between different political groups. Nevertheless, the education level is very high and it has lots of high-quality research centers.

You can reach the campus by public transport as well as the university services.  It is very close to two large shopping centers named CEPA and Kentpark where you can go shopping; eat at the world famous fast-food chains such as McDonalds, Arby’s, Burger King etc., and go to the recent movies in your spare times. If you don’t have enough time, you can also eat a variety of meals in the restaurant building in the campus. The average meal price is TRY 5 – 10.

For the accommodation, you may prefer the dorms (accommodation prices at METU) or rent a house around Cukurambar, Bahcelievler or Tunali Street. Renting a house will cost you around TRY 1000

Airport

Ankara has an only one airport which is Esenboga International Airport located 28 km from the city center. It has been welcoming the guests who come to Ankara since 1955. ESB serves about 7 million passengers per year, most of them are domestic passengers. If your departure is from the west, you will probably have a connecting flight between Istanbul and Ankara.

After landing in Ankara, the city center Kızılay Square can be reached by public transport. From 6 am to 11 pm, you may use EGO city bus number 442 to go to the city center and the intercity bus terminal AŞTİ. The ticket costs TRY 5,25. Another option, and the best one if you arrive at midnight, is Havaş bus line because you can find the shuttles for all arrivals throughout the day, for TRY 12,5 fee. If you are willing to pay about TRY 50, you can also take a cab in front of the exit gate.

Reaching to city center takes approximately 35 minutes. Since the airport is a little bit faraway from city, you need a good transportation plan. It is highly recommended that you arrive Ankara during the daytime otherwise you may have difficulty at night.
